8-Year-Old Girl Raped To Death By 40-Year-Old husband
A child bride aged eight died in Yemen on her wedding night after suffering injuries due to sexual trauma. Human rights organizations are demanding that the husband, who was five times her age be arrested without delay.
A leading Lebanese news paper Al Nahar, reported that this sad incident was recorded in the tribal area of Hardh in northwestern Yemen, which shares a border with Saudi Arabia.
This throws more light on the already existing issue of forced child marriages in the Middle East.
"According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), between 2011 and 2020, more than 140 million girls will become child brides.
Furthermore, of the 140 million girls who will marry before the age of 18, 50 million will be under the age of 15."
It is reported that over a quarter of Yemen's young girls are married before the age of 15. Not only do they lose access to health and education, these child brides are commonly subjected to physical, emotional and sexual violence in their forced marriages.
One of the main issues is that there is currently no consistent established definition of a "child" that has been agreed upon worldwide. This leaves various interpretations within countries and little protection for those who are affected.
The above is a picture of Hamas muslim child brides being married off to men old enough to be their fathers and grandfathers.
It is a common phenomenon among some muslims especially in the middle east and their justification is the Qur'an as it is recorded that Prophet Mohammed also married a child bride aged nine (I stand to be corrected).
With the death of this young girl and several others, some that are not reported, the world must come together to halt this nonsense!
