Yongrush; Up Close and Personal.

Lite Gh caught up with Urban gospel act  Yongrush for a one-on-one exclusive interview and we have decided to publish what ensued between our reporter and the fast rising artist.

LITE REPORTER: Good day Yongrush, thanks for sparing us a few minutes of your time. We'll try not to take the whole hour.

YONGRUSH: [Broad smile] The pleasure is all mine my brother.

LITE REPORTER: How are you doing?

YONGRUSH: Sustained by His strength. You?

LITE REPORTER: God's mercies. Just like the title of one of your singles.

Yongrush : [Laugh] Yeah.

LITE REPORTER: I was listening to it  moments ago. It's a great piece.

YONGRUSH: Wow, glory to God. But thank you.

LITE REPORTER: You are welcome. I see you are more of a freestyler?

YONGRUSH: Yes

LITE REPORTER: So that means when given a platform and a microphone with any instrumental at all playing in the background the lyrics flow freely huh?

YONGRUSH: Yes, as soon as I hear the intrumentations, I flow.

LITE REPORTER: Just like that?

YONGRUSH: Yeah, it's like a reflex action.

LITE REPORTER: Wow. Will you say it gives you an advantage over your fellow artistes?

YONGRUSH: Not really. I believe we are all unique in our own ways. I am just using my talent to the Glory of the one who gave it to me.

LITE REPORTER: I see. So do you sit down with a pen and paper to write songs?

YONGRUSH: I do. I draw inspiration from sermons, songs by other artistes, bible verses and even through conversations with my friends.

LITE REPORTER: Oh okay, so your new single, "To The World Freestyle". How did it come about?

YONGRUSH: Well, I will say the foundation of that song rests on Regardless because he sent me the beat and I did my own thing.

LITE REPORTER: Urban gospel act Regardless?

YONGRUSH: Yes please.

LITE REPORTER: Interesting. What sort of relationship would you say you have with him?

YONGRUSH: He is my senior man and a big brother as well.

LITE REPORTER: That's good to know. But your mention of "brother" has drawn my attention to the fact that our conversation has been centered on the talent rather than the person  so tell me, who is Yongrush?

YONGRUSH: Well,  my real name is Jeffery Kweku Coleman, I had my primary and junior high education at Sap's educational complex at Greda Estates, Teshie Nungua and furthered at the SDA Senior High School in Koforidua. I am the first of five children. We used to be six though.

LITE REPORTER: First born huh? I am as well and the pressure is just crazy. How's it in your case?

YONGRUSH: Oh man! It's not easy at all but God is King.

LITE REPORTER: I know right. You said you used to be six, what happened?

YONGRUSH: We lost our last born PJ last year in July

LITE REPORTER: So sorry about your loss.

YONGRUSH: No problem.

LITE REPORTER: What actually happened to him? Can you talk about it?

YONGRUSH: I wouldn't want to delve into it that much because God knows best so let's leave him to work.

LITE REPORTER: I agree... But I feel our readers who may be going through same or similar ordeals can take solace or draw inspiration from the whole situation how you were able to cope with your loss.

YONGRUSH: Okay. It was one Saturday morning and my mom was all set for her normal routines but my brother, who's now late, cried he wanted to follow my mom so she carried him along. I also had a ministration at Light House Chapel inside the Labadi township so I took off.

Right after my ministration I received a call from my mom. She had lost sight of my brother and was looking for him everywhere. I rushed to her location and joined the search party but all efforts proved futile.
We headed back home and on arrival, all our neigbours had gathered on our compoud. I moved through them curiously and saw something covered on the floor. I inched closer, took off the veil and what I saw shocked me. It was my brother lying on the floor, dead.

LITE REPORTER: My goodness! What was your initial reaction and that of your mom?

YONGRUSH: Believe me, I didn't know what happened next till the next day. And for my mom, she lost it for sometime.
It was there and then that I remembered the story of Rev. Eastwood Anaba who lost two of his children and four church members in a blink but is still strong and faithful in his dealings with the Lord. So I still got my Jesus on and the incident has raised my faith to a level I simply can't explain.

LITE REPORTER: Wow... We give God thanks. How old was he?

YONGRUSH: He was only 3years old.

LITE REPORTER: His place in heaven is secured.

YONGRUSH: Sure. We'll meet again, definately.

LITE REPORTER: Thanks for sharing your story, I really appreciate that.

YONGRUSH: I'm humbled.

LITE REPORTER: So what is Yongrush up to aiside music?

YONGRUSH: I am coming up with a Christian clothing line and also readying myself to enroll at NAFTI.

LITE REPORTER: Oh great. We can't wait. Congratulations.

YONGRUSH: Thank you.

LITE REPORTER: Back to music, which other artistes inspire you?

YONGRUSH: Lecrae, Preachers, Kingzkid, Regardless.

LITE REPORTER: Pretty tight squad.

YONGRUSH: Yeah, I look up to them.

LITE REPORTER: Finally, I've asked everyone I interview this same question. Where do you see yourself in five years?

YONGRUSH: I see myself in a realm where God will be using me to do mind blowing things.

LITE REPORTER: Smart answer. Thanks so much for your time.

YONGRUSH: Thank you for having me. My doors are always opened to you. God bless!

So there you have it. A thourouhly entertaining and inspiring conversation from the word go.
